SUMMARY
The Canadian Business Aviation Association (CBAA) is a non-profit association formed in 1961 as Canada’s voice for business aviation. With a membership of approximately 400 companies and organizations, including operators, management companies and suppliers, CBAA represents the entire business aviation community with a unified and collective voice.
The President and CEO provides overall leadership and direction toward achieving the vision, mission, goals, and policy objectives of the CBAA. The President and CEO is further responsible for the strategic outcomes, operating performance, and financial sustainability of the association.
ROLE PROFILE
This is a senior role for a visionary, strategic and politically savvy communicator in the aviation industry. The incumbent is knowledgeable of current trends and is prepared to be influential in supporting CBAA members to navigate the unique challenges that exist within the aviation sector. This role includes national-level collaboration and is most suitable for an experienced people leader and financial manager. The aims of this role include growing the reach of the Association while maintaining a strong advocacy presence and ensuring a sustainable future for the business aviation sector and community.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Direction:
-
Collaborate with the Board and staff to identify current and future challenges and opportunities and develop plans to address them while evaluating progress and effectiveness in achieving goals.

Actively seek out diverse viewpoints from membership and industry to guide actions, decisions and initiatives.
-
Develop and recommend to the Board a clear vision, direction and strategy for the CBAA that results in maximum return for members, and long-term sustainability.

Track and evaluate key organizational performance indicators to measure progress and success.
Advocacy & Liaisons:
-
Engage with, inform, and build strong working relationships with elected and appointed government officials to ensure business aviation remains accessible, safe and sustainable.
-
Act as the primary spokesperson promoting the value and contributions of business aviation to increase awareness of its importance and economic impact.

Evaluate and influence, when possible, government policies, legislation and regulations, which will have an impact on the business aviation industry.
Industry Leadership & Membership Engagement:

Lead and develop membership retention strategies and growth initiatives with a national reach.

Build and maintain strong relationships with major stakeholders including aircraft owners, operators, industry professionals and service providers.

Expand the value of the CBAA brand for the Association, members, partners and employees.
-
Deliver relevant, timely, and engaging events that strengthen the membership value proposition and enhance member satisfaction.

Ensure that the business aviation industry interests are represented.
-
Clearly communicate the membership value to current and prospective members.
Finance & Risk:
-
Develop and recommend the annual budget and strategic plan to the Board of Directors.

Ensure operational management is built on sound financial management of a budget that includes reporting, analytics, budgeting, forecasting, audit support, and tax compliance.

Exercise critical thinking and good judgement in every area of accountability; adhere to all organizational policies, particularly in the exercise of fiduciary duties.

Assess risk and develop appropriate risk management plans (i.e. self-insurance, technology, etc.) while ensuring compliance/control needs are met in a manner consistent with good business practices including managing CBAA’s assets, financial resources, brand, and reputation.
Board and Executive Committee Relations:

Establish strong relationships and transparent communication with the Executive Committee, the Board and Board Committees, ensuring consistent engagement with Board members.

Collaborate and provide counsel to the Board and Committees regarding policy, programs, and other key initiatives.
-
Attend and participate in Executive Committee, Board, and Board Committee meetings.
Human Resources:

Allocate human and capital resources to achieve the association’s objectives.

Provide overall leadership and management of the CBAA team.
-
Promote and nurture a workplace culture that enhances employee morale, supports well-being, and drives high performance.
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS
-
A deep understanding of the business operations in the aviation sector.
-
Knowledge of government affairs and experience influencing government policy.
-
Experience managing and leading within a non-profit membership-based association.
-
Knowledge of aviation regulations and experience working with regulatory authorities.
-
Excellent communication skills including public speaking, writing, active listening, and synthesizing information when working with colleagues, members, volunteers, and the media.

Ability to travel as required both domestically and internationally.
-
Skilled in strategic planning and business and market development.
-
Post-secondary studies in Business Administration, Law, Aviation or similar is required with preference for recent experience as an executive and/or senior leader in an aviation related organization.

English is required, fluency in French is an asset.
