2016 SUmmer Runway Operations at YVR

These operations will start on May 08.

Runway End Safety Area (RESA) Project & South Runway Maintenance

The second year of RESA construction and the annual south runway maintenance will be carried out from May 08 to September 02. During this time period, the south runway will be closed 6 nights a week (Sun-Fri) between 10 pm and 7 am, and all operations will be diverted to the north runway. While there is no construction work planned for Saturdays and stat holidays, the north runway will remain open to accommodate landings as the instrument landing system on the south runway will not be available.

North Runway Departures to Reduce Delays

As the demand for air travel continues to grow, the Airport Authority has authorized the strategic use of north runway for departures during the day to reduce delays during peak periods, starting May 08. Based on the forecasted demand, some aircraft may depart on the north runway between the following hours:

·         7 AM to 8 PM Monday to Friday; and

·         7 AM and 7 PM Saturday and Sunday.

The number of aircraft departing on the north runway will vary each day depending on the traffic volume and aircraft mix. North runway departures during peak periods will continue throughout the summer, and the operations will be reviewed to determine its continued use through the fall and winter months.
