CBAA POC Program

In late 1998, the Canadian Business Aviation Association (CBAA) embarked on a collaborative project with Transport Canada to transfer administration and management responsibilities surrounding CAR 604 from Transport Canada to CBAA. This would ensure that business aviation received the proper attention by a team of qualified staff, aiding in fulfilling business aviation’s purpose as a business tool and economic enabler. The POC Program continues to evolve and is recognized as a successful and efficient necessity for business aircraft operations.

SAFETY

The CBAA Business Aviation Operational Safety Standards System (BA-OSS) was one of the key instruments used to develop the International Standards for Business Aircraft Operators (IS-BAO) and Safety Management Systems (SMS), making CBAA’s POC Program among one of the pioneers of safety enhancement programs.

Canada has become a world leader in safety for business aviation. In 2010, SMS will become an international requirement and Canada leads the world in having these systems already in place. CBAA’s POC Program is dedicated to providing SMS integration by presenting a means of balancing safety, security and efficiency.

Dedicated CBAA staff are available to answer any questions operators may have with regard to SMS and the POC Program. CBAA’s POC Program allows business aircraft operators to tailor their SMS guidelines to meet the specific and unique requirements of operating companies through oversight by CBAA’s POC team and CBAA accredited auditors.

BENEFITS

CBAA strives for excellence surrounding equilibrium, balance, security, efficiency, and safety. Working closely with Transport Canada, NAV CANADA, Canada Border Services Agency, Canada Revenue Agency and many other government and non-government organizations, CBAA’s POC Program ensures that POC members are provided with the most valuable and up-to-date information.

Operator benefits lie in additional flexibility and operating efficiencies that the CBAA standards and procedures allow the potential for operators to play a more direct role in managing their own safety performance and regulatory accountability. CBAA also offers temporary IRR and Type Rating services.

Benefits for Transport Canada relate to the opportunity to devote resources dedicated to CAR 604 operations, to higher risk aviation activities.

POC members also receive the many benefits that CBAA offers its Affiliate and Associate members through networking opportunities, representation nationally and internationally, and membership publications including a complimentary subscription to Wings Magazine featuring CBAA’s News Brief.
